    Not sure what I did wrong, but this is the first time I’ve ever had meat turn out dry in a slow cooker. I just reviewed the recipe again, and I followed it exactly except I didn’t have quite enough soy sauce so I used bourbon sauce and water to make up the same amount of liquid. Set the slow cooker on low for 7.5 hours. Everything was black on the outside and the chicken was really dry. I was really looking forward to it & am sad it didn’t turn out like I hoped.

      I’m so sorry to hear that! If you’re using a large slow cooker you may need to decrease the cooking time to more like 6 hours.

      I can’t seem to post a new review, so I will piggyback on what Raxhel posted. I followed this recipe to the letter and cooked for 4 hours. It was just awful. The chicken was like dry shredded leather, the potatoes were mush and the carrots were still hard. Worst of all, everything was brown….such a dark unappetizing brown that my kids were fighting me about eating it. The sauce has potential perhaps if cooked separately, but beyond that, big miss here.

        So sorry to hear that! It sounds like it was over cooked. Every slow cooker is different, so it’s hard to give exact directions, but if you ever try it again I’d definitely cut down on the cooking time or temperature.

            You can use frozen chicken, you’ll just need to increase the cooking time.

      I also followed the recipe to the letter. Everything did come out an unappetizing color, not at all like the picture. And the sauce itself was not very good, even a little bitter. I’ve made a honey roasted chicken that was to die for, but this recipe just wasn’t very good. And I use the crock pot often!

    I am a terrible cook, but I made this for my family tonight and they loved it! It was the first time they have ever enjoyed anything I have made lol! The only things I did different were that I cooked the chicken, potatoes, and carrots in the oven because I didn’t have time to slow cook, I cut out the soy sauce, and I steamed the green beans on the stove top. Like I said, they loved it!

    I’m trying this for dinner tonight. I used 1/4 cup of soy sauce and a 1/4 cup of ketchup instead of 1/2 cup of soy sauce. Will update

      Since you’ll be using a smaller slow cooker the cooking times shouldn’t be too different. I’d just plan on the lower end of the cooking times. Hope you enjoy it!

      With thawed chicken on low it’ll probably take 6-7 hours. Cook time will depend on other factors too though, like the size of your slow cooker/crockpot. Smaller slow cookers that are full of food will take longer, a bigger slow cooker with lots of extra room will take less time. Hope that helps!

      Hi Brittany! You might need to reduce it a bit, or if it does all fit you’ll need to plan on a slightly longer cooking time.

      Hey Autumn! With all the other things with it, I just serve half a chicken breast to each person. If you want everyone to have a full chicken breast I would double the recipe.

      Hey BreAnna! I’d probably cut everything in half. You might need more than half the cooking time, but this is not one that you want to way over cook.

    I thought I had chicken breasts but I don’t! But I do have 10 boneless chicken tenders–how should I adjust the recipe/cook time for this? I also plan to be a lazy butt and just use canned sliced carrots and canned whole potatoes–should I put these in at the beginning or wait a few hours. I am going to be out most of the day, so I want to do the longer cook time on LOW. Thanks in advance!

    I did this today. Chicken taste was delicious and so did the potatoes and carrots but they got this brown wierd color. Will surely make the chicken again with some rice instead.

    I made this recipe today using thick frozen chicken breasts, cut soy sauce to 1/4 cup and added fresh mushrooms. accidently added frozen green beans at the beginning. I added 3/4 C. chicken broth and cooked for 7 1/2 hours on low. It turned out beautifully. The chicken broth smoothed out the strong taste of the soy sauce. Thanks for the recipe. Will make again

    我减半这个食谱,煮7个小时a 4.5qt crockpot. It was just okay. The chicken breast was on the dry side, but I don’t blame the recipe for that – chicken breast does tend to be dry. It wasn’t so dry that it was inedible, though. The potatoes were cooked to the perfect texture, but absorbed the majority of the liquid and took on an almost bitter flavor. I would make this again but with a few changes. I would marinate the chicken breast in the liquid before putting it into the slow cooker. I would also add some butter chunks on top of everything and some salt sprinkled over the veggies. I give the recipe 3 stars because I think it’s a good start to a great recipe, with some modifications.
